Bournemouth Airport
About Bournemouth Airport
Bournemouth voted Best Regional Airport
Bournemouth International Airport (BIA) was voted best
Regional Airport in 1999 by Estates Gazette, the UK's leading publication
for commercial, industrial and residential property markets.
Its 1999 Airport Test canvassed property professionals about their experience
of nine UK airports and respondents were asked to rate each airport
on a scale of 1 to 10. According to Estates Gazette, "BIA pipped
longer-established airports such as Southampton and London City".
Estates Gazette's sample showed that Bournemouth scored
top marks from motorists on the issue of access and its refreshment
facilities were rated a "gastronomic hit". Ease of check-in
procedures also placed it high on the list.
As Estates Gazette explained; "As the skies around the UK's
top airports get busier, air travellers are increasingly frustrated
by slow movement on the ground. Traffic congestion on the way to and
from the airport, exhorbitant parking charges, and endless trekking
through miles of corridors to the gate are just some of the problems
facing business travellers today. The solution for many fliers may lie
close to home. Across the UK, business people are realising the viability
of an under-utilised facility; their local airport."
