About Sevilla
Seville is Southeast of Spain. A provincial capital,
seat of the government and parliament of the Comunidad Autónoma
de Andalucía. It has more than 700,000 inhabitants, nearly
half the population of the whole province.
The city of Seville is found on the plain of the
Guadalquivir river which crosses the city from North to South.
The river can be navigated from Seville all the way to its outlet
near Sanlúcar de Barrameda, on the Atlantic coast. In the
past the port of Seville played an important role in commerce
between Spain and the Americas and remains today one of the most
active river ports of the Iberian peninsula.
About Sevilla Airport
Seville airport is ten kilometres northwest of
the capital. It embarked on its largest expansion in 1992. In
preparation for the Universal Exhibition, the aircraft parking
apron was extended and a new terminal was built, as well as a
new access road from the National N-IV road and a new control
tower to the south of the runway.
Seville airport does have some international traffic, it basically
deals with domestic traffic, which represents 79.8 percent of
the total.
During 2005 a total of 3,522,134 passengers passed through the
airport, which carried 55,420 flight operations and dealt with
6,336 tonnes of cargo.
