About Asturias
Asturias is a principality and constituted of a
single province, the capital is Oviedo. It is limited by high
mountain ranges, Cordillera Cantabrica, where you will find some
outstanding natural preserves such as Picos de Europa and the
national parks of Covadonga and Somiedo. Asturias is known for
its green landscapes, and just a few kilometers from high mountain
peaks there is the Cantabric coast with beaches and colorful fishing
villages.
Attractions are the Way of Santiago with its numberless monuments
and the Ruta de la Plata, "silver route", which lead
through Asturias.
Asturias is the home of ancient rites and beliefs, and popular
customs are among the most interesting of Spain. Artisany and
gastronomy are of high reputation, you may try excellent sea-food
along the coast and, in the mountains, dishes such as Fabada,
made of a special sort of beans, blood sausage and various cheese
specialities, together with a glass of cider.
About Asturias Airport
Asturias airport is located in Renón, in
the city limits of Castrillón, 15 km from Avilés,
39 km from Gijón and 43 km from Oviedo.
The traffic is scheduled domestic traffic. Over 95% of this type
of traffic is operated with Madrid-Barajas, Barcelona, Palma de
Mallorca and Tenerife Sur. As regards international traffic, the
countries operating the greatest number of flights to this airport
are the United Kingdom and France.
During 2005 the airport served 1,251,495 passengers, managed
17,534 operations and moved 230 tonnes of cargo.
