Sky Bridge at Fiumicino Airport

The Sky Bridge line is formed of two fully automatic (driverless) trains composed of two carriages travelling to and fro over the viaduct crossing the aprons. The Sky Bridge connects Terminal C - at a height of 11.5 metres with respect to the aircraft aprons - to the new Satellite - at a height of 6.5 metres. This first section is around 570 metres long.

The Sky Bridge permits the transport of 5,000 passengers per hour in each direction during peak times. The train's interior fittings enable an average capacity of 80 passengers per carriage (each shuttle is composed of two carriages).

The entire system is regulated by a state-of-the-art control room, similar to those used for rail traffic control, enabling standard as well as closed-circuit monitoring and ensuring constant effective surveillance.

The first stretch of the Sky Bridge together with the two stations were built in just under three years and the cost, entirely financed by the State, was around 43 billion lire.

The complete Sky Bridge project includes 5 stations, two terminals and three transit stations; two parallel tracks for the shuttles and 1 maintenance and control station.
