Siegerland Airport
About Siegerland Airport
History
The Siegerland commercial airport was opened by North-Rhine Westphalias
state president Kühn in 1967 on a site with an aviation tradition.
The airfield had been used by the military since the 1930s and the construction
of runway, tower and GAT in the 1960s laid the foundations for todays
Siegerland Airport. The introduction of the instrument landing system
in autumn 1999 has provided Germanys highest airport above sea-level
with excellent prospects for the future.
New Terminal
The year 2001 has seen the complete rebuilding of the terminal at Siegerland
Airport. The arrivals area for scheduled and charter flights has been
temporarily moved to an interim terminal directly beside the departure
area. The existing terminal, which will now only be used for departures,
has two check-in desks, luggage conveyor belts, display panels and seating
for approx. 100 passengers and so complies with international standards.
Other new improvements include a VIP room and crew lounge.
Parking
240 unattended parking spaces are available to passengers right in front
of the check-in building.
Restaurant
The Siegerland Airport restaurant is situated directly in the terminal
itself. Enjoy a menu of excellent Croatian and international specialities.
The restaurant is open Tuesdays to Sundays from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and
can accommodate 65 guests. During the summer months, the outside roof-top
terrace is also open. Table reservations are recommended and can be
made under (02736) 1494.
