Rouen Airport
About Rouen
Claude Monet famously painted Rouen cathedrals
facade at almost every moment of the day and after sipping
a petit café in the shadow of the gothic masterpiece, one
of these priceless canvasses can be viewed at the Musée
des Beaux Arts. The main routes through Rouen may be ugly but
they do keep traffic away from the medieval pedestrianised centre.
The Rue Gros Horloge with its big clock is the main route to explore
but also the church of St Ouen which is next to the Hôtel
de Ville housed in the former abbey, is well worth a visit. St
Ouen is in many ways more impressive than the cathedral as its
interior is often empty. Place St Marc on Sunday mornings is the
setting for the giant flea market with the majority of the shops
open until lunchtime. For anyone looking for bric-a-brac there
is also a market on Thursday mornings on the Rive Gauche near
the Eglise St Sever.
