Nancy Airport
About Nancy
Anyone visiting the Meurthe-et-Moselle département
or looking for a short break away from the popularly favoured known
French destinations will fall in love with Lorraines historic
capital of Nancy.
Backing on to the river Meurthe and the Canal du Marne,
the citys architecture is the product of its two golden ages.
The first during the 18th century when it was considerably embellished.
The second at the turn of the 20th century when, for a brief while,
Nancy looked set to seriously rival Paris as a centre for Art Nouveau
under the skilled glassmaker Emile Gallé.
Nancy was spared occupation during Lorraines first
experience of being annexed (1870-1918) and a certain devil-may-care
atmosphere remains.
Nancys frivolous fountains with lead statues of
Neptune, stately Baroque buildings, gilded wrought iron gates and shop
windows full of finely crafted chocolates all combine to make you briefly
think that you have stumbled into an architectural heaven of sorts.
