Cherbourg Airport
About Cherbourg
Cherbourg, an important naval base since Napoleonic
times, is a busy ferry port. The marina has over 1,000 moorings
but most visitors head south into the coutnryside.
Mont St Michel rises majestically from the sand
flats. An architectural jewel, it is a magnet for tourists all
through the year with its narrow streets and steps to the summit.
St Lô was devastated during World War II and
few old buildings remain. Trout fishing in the nearby river Vire
is popular.
Coutances 13th century gothic cathedral is
not as famous as its cheese.
