Albanian Airlines
Albanian Airlines is a privately owned National Carrier of Albania
and plays a pivotal role in the ongoing redevelopment of the formerly
Communist State of Albania as it continues to integrate itself
into Europe.
Albanian Airlines was restructured in 1996 - following its first
15 months of operation - at which time its operations were based
on a single IL56 aircraft. During the subsequent six years it
has grown steadily, moving into established profitability. Passenger
numbers have risen from 37,217 per annum in 1997 to over 120,000
in 2001 with a fleet of three aircraft serving destinations in
Italy, Turkey, Germany, Switzerland and Kosovo together with a
growing charter programme.
This growth has enabled Albanian Airlines to introduce a fleet
replacement programme that saw the delivery of their first BAe
146-200 94 seat regional jet aircraft before the end of 2000.
This development has enabled the airline to introduce Business
Class service on their flights to Rome and Frankfurt
Further enhancements are planned in coming months, including
expansion of the BAe 146 fleet, and the airline is committed to
continuing it growth and position as the prominent provider of
air services to and from Albania.
